Trek Quick Details

Trek Overview

The Everest Base Camp, Cho La Pass, and Gokyo Ri Trek from Salleri offers a diverse and stunning adventure. Starting from Salleri, you’ll trek through picturesque valleys and traditional Sherpa villages, providing a more gradual ascent and a chance to experience authentic local culture before joining the popular EBC route. This approach helps with acclimatization while showcasing the beauty of lower Khumbu.

As you continue, the trek follows the classic Everest Base Camp (EBC) route, leading you to the iconic base camp at 5,364 meters and not missing the highest viewpoint Kala Patthar (5,550m). Along the way, you’ll encounter breathtaking views of Everest and neighboring peaks, passing through vibrant villages like Namche Bazaar and experiencing the thrill of standing at the base of the world’s highest mountain.

The journey then takes you over the challenging Cho La Pass, standing at 5,420 meters. This high-altitude pass connects the EBC trail with the Gokyo Valley and rewards trekkers with spectacular glacier views. Although the climb can be demanding, the panoramic vistas from the pass make the effort worthwhile.

Finally, you’ll explore the serene Gokyo Valley, home to the stunning Gokyo Lakes and the panoramic viewpoint of Gokyo Ri (5,357 meters). The turquoise lakes and expansive views of Everest and neighboring peaks offer a tranquil end to a remarkable trek, combining adventure with breathtaking natural beauty.

Ideal Time for the EBC & Gokyo via Chola Pass Trek

The best time to trek to Everest Base Camp and Goyo Valley is during the pre-monsoon (spring) from March to May and the post-monsoon (autumn) from September to November. These months offer favorable weather, stunning views, and more comfortable trekking conditions. At Summit Trekkers, we highly recommend these periods to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

1. Spring (March to May)

During spring, temperatures at lower altitudes can range from 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F) during the day, making it pleasant for trekking. However, as you ascend, the temperatures drop, with nights at higher elevations like Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp plunging to around -5°C to -10°C (23°F to 14°F). Days are generally mild and sunny, with blooming rhododendrons adding vibrant colors along the trail. While the Everest Base Camp itself can be chilly, this season’s moderate temperatures make it easier to acclimatize.

2. Autumn (September to November)

Autumn is the most popular season for trekking to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Valley due to its clear skies and moderate temperatures. During the day, lower altitude temperatures range from 8°C to 12°C (46°F to 54°F), while higher elevations can see nighttime temperatures drop to -10°C to -15°C (14°F to 5°F). The post-monsoon season brings fresh, crisp air, offering some of the best mountain views. Though mornings and evenings are cooler, the stable weather and breathtaking scenery make it an ideal time for trekking.

At Summit Trekkers, we ensure you’re well-prepared for the varying temperatures and conditions, providing guidance on gear and clothing to help you comfortably tackle the trek during these peak seasons.

Fitness Level Required for the EBC and Gokyo Valley Trek

The Everest Base Camp (EBC) and Gokyo Valley trek requires good physical fitness, though no technical skills are needed. With 20-22 days of trekking and 5 to 8 hours of walking daily, cardiovascular endurance is essential. Activities like jogging or cycling before the trek will help build the stamina necessary for the journey.

Leg strength and flexibility are key for handling steep ascents and rocky trails. Exercises like squats and lunges will strengthen your legs, while yoga or stretching improves flexibility and balance to prevent injuries. A strong body helps you tackle the physical demands of the trek.

Equally important is a positive mindset. The trek’s high altitudes and changing conditions can be mentally demanding, and maintaining a positive mentality keeps you motivated. Being in good shape, both physically and mentally, helps you better acclimatize and enjoy the overall experience. Summit Trekkers ensures rest days to support both physical adaptation and mental resilience. And if you are a beginner, we welcome you most as we have positive records of helping our clients make it to the summit.
